Mission Statement
Successful teaching strategies are supported by the vigorous maintenance of
comfortable and safe learning environments. The goal and mission of the
Office of School Safety and Security includes:
• Maintaining reasonably safe as well as secure teaching and learning environments
for our students, faculty and staff;
• Coordinating, cooperating and effectively interacting with all of our supporting public
safety, law enforcement and regulatory agencies on issues related to learning
community safety issues;
• Keeping community members and other stakeholders prudently informed on issues
that may impact their respective activities and communities.
Staffing & Operations
Office of School Safety and Security staff includes full-time commissioned School
Safety Officers [Private Security Officers], part-time School Safety Officers [P.O.S.T.
Class A Certified Police Officers] as well as administrative level support from an appointed
Corporate Security Advisor(s) [Revised Missouri Statutes ¶84.340 and Code of State
Regulation 17 CSR 20.2-20.5]. These positions have full arrest and investigative
authority for all criminal matters while performing their respective school district
related assignments.
The district also employs part-time Crossing Guards at various locations within
our service community. This position has no arrest authority, however these staff
members are directed to make appropriate referral for observed traffic infractions
or unsafe activity, all to encourage appropriate law enforcement follow-up.
Office of School Safety and Security staff are available for service requests on all
scheduled days for district business activity from 5:30 AM until 11:30 PM [Monday
through Friday]. Local public safety, law enforcement and specific vendor support
agencies have the ability to contact this department's staff on a continuing [24/7/365]
basis. Department members are available for selected response to criminal, crisis
and significantly serious incidents in support of our service community's unique needs.
